Its imposing façade is noticeable for its neo-classical style. The building has had quite a tragic history, in 1948 it was burnt down by a mob during El bogotazo, then in 1985 it was almost destroyed when it was taken by the guerrillas for a 28 hour period. El palacio ha tenido una historia un poco trágica. En 1948, el edificio fue quemado por las turbas durante el famoso "bogotazo".Luego, en 1985, fue casi destruido cuando la guerrilla se apoderó de él durante 28 horas. El palacio alojará cuatro de las más altas corporaciones judiciales: la Corte Suprema de Justicia, la Corte Constitucional, el Concejo de Estado y el Concejo Superior de la Judicatura.
